Forgotten Disney: 1900 - 1940's Pop Century

Disney's Pop Century is one of four value resorts at Walt Disney World. The resorts theme is the Classic Years.

The different brightly colored hotel buildings set the time back to the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's. The buildings have huge pieces of toys and items that resemble that time period.

Originally meant to open with the Pop Century in 2003 was the other side of the resort, The Golden Years. Directly across from the resort resides almost a mirror image of the resort. The almost mirror image has some key differences, it doesn't have paint, finished/furnished rooms, and there are no guests allowed or staying in this hotel. The legendary years were the 1910, 20's, 30's and 40's.

What would it have looked liked finished?

From the resort it kind of looks almost like a prison.

For most guests and Disney historians alike everyone wonders why it was not finished? Some people believe Disney ran out of the budget money. Most people believe that it was caused by the September 11 attacks decreased the projected visitors for that year and Disney decided to scale down on the original plans.

This video shows a brave individual going in to the unfinished resort. Kind of depressing isn't it?

But there will be a happy ending to this story, May 12, 2010 Disney Parks released a statement that they would finish the remaining resort of the Pop Century. The resort will not be the Legendary Years but will be retheming it to Disney's Art of Animation Resort. The plans are to have a Cars, Little Mermaid, Lion King and Finding Nemo building with a total of 1980 rooms. The resort scheduled opening is Summer of 2012.
